Jim Calloway has posted an excellent article about how your legal practice will prosper if you remember to follow the advice your mother gave you. As I read this piece I realized that his points are just as applicable to successful marketing. So, what did your mother tell you?
-First impressions are crucial – your office, your appearance, your demeanor, etc.,
-Don’t interrupt (I particularly liked Jim’s sample dialogue on this one),
-Be a good listener,
-Be polite – to everyone,
-Always tell the truth – to the client, opposing counsel and the court,
-Anything worth doing is (you remember the rest) – particularly if you want to see the client again or obtain referrals.
It isn’t that we have forgotten the lessons learned at our mother’s knee, but it doesn’t hurt to remind ourselves occasionally how important mom’s advice is to our professional well-being.
