Just because advances in technology have brought us cheaper color printers and desktop publishing software, that is no reason for one to design their own logo. We can thank Chris Houchens at Shotgun Marketing Blog for that advice. Chris cites the example of a multi-million dollar medical practice that used clip art for its logo, and it looked unprofessional.
It made me think of some law firm logos that I have encountered (yes, even clip art), and the marketing value was – let us say – poor. I recommend that if your firm has or is planning to develop a logo, that you use a design professional to do it for you. I wouldn’t want them practicing law, so why would a law firm practice designing? So, if you don’t have a design person on staff, hire an outside professional, and kick your look up a notch. (Sorry, Emeril).
